So while Panther City will have its choice of some veteran talent during the expansion draft on June 29th. There is a catch…
Lets take Dane Dobbie of the Calgary Rougnecks as one example.
“Dane is an unrestricted free agent, who can reject the franchise tag,” Board said. “Protecting him doesn’t change that status. There are a number of players around the league in the same position who were also not protected. If Panther City selects him, he has the ability to reject the tag there as well and go to free agency.
Players 34 and older may reject the franchise tag.
Now will the Philly fans stop bitching about protecting Alex Pace over aging veterans? Probably not
The expansion draft, slated for June 29, will allow the incoming Panther City LC to stock their roster with existing NLL players.
Teams must submit their protected lists on June 15;
They can shelter 11, with a maximum five offensive players. They can also work on a sliding scale that would include four offensive players, seven defenders and a goalie, or four offensive players and eight defenders.
And we are just scratching the surface.
The New York Riptide and Rochester Knighthawks 2.0 got to stock their rosters this afternoon.
Hawks trade Chris Wardle to the Mammoth in exchange for Julian Garritano and Mike Mallory.
Hawks trade Mike Mallory to the Warriors in exchange for Travis Burton and a second-round pick in the 2020 NLL Entry Draft.

“We like our young (defense), and it was important to protect one extra defenseman” Day said. “Our three goalies are all young guys and we know we can’t lose all of them and we know with other teams, there’s such strengths on other expansion lists that we should be able to retain at least two of them. That was probably our most difficult decision.”
Raise your hand if you are comfortable going into the season with Davide DiRuscio and Gowah Abrams as the Wings starting goaltending combination. Anyone? With Buchan on the shelf for who knows how long.
We like our young defense? Better hope Day finds a vet or two in free agency to help offset the growing pains that young players typically experience.
Day has his work cut out for himself in the draft and free agency. Maybe sending two firsts to New England for Kevin Crowley was not the best idea after all.
Now we might know why the Wings did not bother to protect a goalie in the expansion draft. Doug Buchan to misss MSL summer season due to a knee injury.
What impact will this have on Philly’s goaltending situation heading into free agency and the draft? We will have to wait and see.

Teams will submit a list of 11 players they wish to protect ahead of the Expansion Draft.
Per the CBA, a maximum of five forwards and one goaltender can be put on a team’s protected player list.
Well the league has published the protected players lists. Some interesting names available to Rochester and New York.
Curious move by Philadelphia not protecting a goaltender. Let the bitching by Philly faithful begin.
Anyway let the backroom deals begin in earnest. Check out the lists below.
