Small audience watches PLL debut on NBCSportsNet

H/t to OSC for this information.

The Premier Lacrosse League debuted this week with their first weekend of games, including one broadcast on NBC Sports Network. The broadcast didn’t rate in the Top 150 cable shows in the demo, which would have been a 0.05 rating on Sunday.

The teams combined for four goals over the first thirty minutes as Matt Vinc and Christian Del Bianco put on a show. Shawn Evans broke the tie 4:15 into the third quarter and give the Bandits a 3-2 lead before the Roughnecks went on a 4-0 run that stretched between the third and four quarters to take control and head back to Calgary with a 1-0 series lead.

Dane Dobbie led the Roughnecks with three goals and three assists. Christian Del Bianco made 48 saves for the Roughnecks

Buffalo will have to find a way to solve Del Bianco if they want to bring the series back to Buffalo for a third and deciding game.

Game two goes Saturday May 25 in Calgary 9 PM ET face off.

PLL Draft and NBC Sports Network

The NLL gets a lot of shit because of crappy streaming and a television deal that has not yet materialized. However, things could be so much worse.

For example having your television partner NBC Sports Network broadcast your  inaugural college draft at 1 AM ET / 10 PM PT. ( Yes we know the draft is pre-recorded. No stop looking at us for spoilers.)

We ain’t shitting you ( Better hope Game 7 between the Knights and Sharks does not go into overtime. ) For the one or two fans who might be interested in the fledgling Professional Lacrosse League.

So better put a full pot of coffee on. ( We recommend Death Wish Coffee ) If you plan to stay up for the first ever and (maybe the last ? ) PLL college draft.

Lacrosse will never gain mainstream acceptance. If television networks view lacrosse as nothing more than filler programming.
