Calgary Flames likely to pull out of new arena deal, says Calgary mayor

Calgary’s mayor says the Flames intend to pull the plug on the events centre deal, meant to replace the iconic Saddledome in Victoria Park.

At a press conference Tuesday evening, Mayor Jyoti Gondek said she spoke with Murray Edwards, primary shareholder of Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corp (CSEC), who informed her the events centre deal would not be proceeding forward.

The December 17 matchup between the Rush and Warriors drew 50,000 on TSN

While the 50K falls well short of the 88K viewers on Dec 4. The Dec 17 match was a 5k improvement over the Dec 11 match up between the Roughnecks and Rush.

If Dawick has any doubts this is going to work, he’s not showing it. That opening night crowd will soon be the low-end number for attendance, he says. He expects FirstOntario Centre’s lower bowl to regularly be full — again, once the pandemic is under control — and for seats in the upper deck to be in demand. Ticket sales for the next home game a month away are already strong.

Goalie Fight

During the Hawks and Firewolves game we got to see a rare goalie fight between Ryan Hartley of the Hawks and Ethan Woods of the Firewolves.

Now the leagues and its member clubs need to include  this clip in future marketing campaigns.

Philly led 5-4 at halftime and forgot that they still had thirty minutes left to play.

The Rock took control of the game outscoring the Wings 4-1 in the third quarter. As the Wings offense kept dropping passes, and working on their outside offense. Maybe the Wings are trying out for the PLL?

Rob Hellyes led the Rock with three goals and three assists, while Nick Rose made 39 saves for the Rock.

Zach Higgins played 44:05 before going to the locker room, as a shot from Rock player, made its way through Higgins mask and made contact with Higgins face.

At last check Higgins was going through the NLL’s concussion protocol.

Nolan Clayton replaced Higgins and made nine saves on twelve shots.

Well the NLL returned to Albany, and the Hawks spoiled the party by spanking the Firewolves 16-7, in front of 4,885 fans, but hey at least we got to see a goalie fight.

Holden Cattoni led the Hawks with four goals and added five assists. Ryan Hartley, made 27 saves in just over 48 minutes of action. Joel Waston saw mop up duty and made 8 saves on 11 shots.
