Minnesota and Edmonton trade

The Edmonton Rush and Minnesota Swarm have announced a trade with the Rush acquiring the first overall selection in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft, along with a second-round pick in the 2015 Draft, plus goaltender Tyler Carlson from the Swarm in exchange for the third overall pick in the 2014 Draft and goaltender Brodie MacDonald. Edmonton’s third-overall selection was acquired from the Philadelphia Wings in the 2011 blockbuster trade involving Athan Iannucci and Brodie Merrill.

The trade will be formally submitted for league review at the opening of the league’s new calendar year on July 1, the first day trades are permitted for 2015 season.

Well Minnesota get the clear cut number one goalie they have been seeking. Carlson should do fine backing up Bold.

League awards Edmonton draft picks

The National Lacrosse League has announced that the Edmonton Rush will be awarded two compensatory draft selections, the first at the conclusion of the second round of the 2014 NLL Entry Draft and the second at the end of the third round of the 2015 Draft, as a result of losing forward Ryan Ward to unrestricted free agency prior to the 2014 season.

The awarding of compensatory draft selections is outlined in the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement under Article 7 (Free Agency) in Section 7.2 (Unrestricted Free Agency):

F. Compensatory Draft Selections. Any club that loses an Unrestricted Free Agent shall be eligible to receive a compensatory draft selection(s) that will be issued by the League in a formula to be determined solely by the League.

The 2014 NLL Entry Draft will take place on Monday, Sept. 22 at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ontario.
